چکیده

We are presenting a set of applications that have been realized with the MO modular wireless motion capture device and a set of software components integrated into Max/MSP. These applications, created in the context of artistic projects, music pedagogy, and research, allow for the gestural reembodiment of recorded sound and music. They demonstrate a large variety of different ”playing techniques” in musical performance using wireless motion sensor modules in conjunction with gesture analysis and real-time audio processing components.

Sound ”Gesturefication”, sound/gesture-mapping for the interaction with recorded sounds

With ”Gesturefication” we designate the creation of a mapping between gestural control and sound synthesis parameters based on the recording and analysis of a sound and related gestures. These gestures may have actually produced the sound or simply describe the sound from a particular point of view such as instrument performance, music conducting or active and embodied music listening. Our work...

Latency Tolerance for Gesture Controlled Continuous Sound Instrument without Tactile Feedback

This paper reports the results of an experimental study of human latency tolerance for gestural sound control without tactile feedback. 16 subjects played a Theremin that was routed through an adjustable delay buffer. It was found that when comparing to a reference with no latency, the just noticeable difference (JND) is between 20 and 30 milliseconds. After that, the probability of detecting l...

The integral Music controller: Introducing a Direct Emotional Interface to gestural control of sound synthesis

This paper describes the concept of the integral music controller (IMC), a controller that combines gestural interface with direct emotional control of a digital musical instrument. This new controller enables the performer to move smoothly between direct physical interaction with an acoustical musical instrument, and gestural/emotional control of the instrument’s physical model. The use of phy...
